SAVE BOYLSTON
MISSION:
To protect the rural living and nature of Boylston for people and wildlife.
MONDAY MAY 1
7PM
Forested land between School St and Sewall St, behind Brookside Apartments, is under threat of being developed with 60 residential units. Currently the land is being used for passive recreation by many residents and is home to varied wildlife as well as a beautiful stream and wetlands.
We must save our forest to save our neighborhoods, nearby working farms, wildlife, prevent overcrowding of our schools and roads, and to protect our water supply.
ARTICLE 25:
To see what sum of money the Town will vote to appropriate, transfer from available funds in the Treasury, or borrow for the purchase of a parcel of land containing approximately 30.08 acres, more particularly shown on Assessors Map 23 as Parcel 25, containing 30.08 acres +/-, located on the west side of School Street and further described in a deed recorded in the Worcester Registry of Deeds in Book 60036, Page 136; or act in any other way thereon.
WHERE TO VOTE:
Boylston’s Annual Town Meeting
Monday May 1st, 7pm
Tahanto Regional High School Auditorium
1001 Main Street
WHAT HAPPENS IF I VOTE YES?
If the Town passes a "YES" vote on Article 25:
The land, trails, wildlife and wetlands will be able to be enjoyed by all residents for passive recreation such as hiking.
The rural character of Boylston will continue to be a priority, not detrimental overdevelopment.
Deer, bears, beavers, coyotes, fishers, frogs, hundreds of birds and other wildlife will have their habitat protected, all of which have been seen by abutters.
Preserving open space will aid Boylston not in stopping development, but growing in smarter ways.
Keeping open space which is frequently the source of our cleanest drinking water.
Trees and other open space vegetation improve the quality of our air.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I VOTE NO?
If the Town passes a "NO" vote on Article 25:
Through traffic on School Street will be increased, which may jeopardize pedestrian safety as well as increasing air and noise pollution.
Wells may be contaminated or the quantity and quality of Town water available to existing users will be diminished.
Poorly managed growth will cause schools to become over-crowded.
Existing homes will be subjected to visual impacts which may lower property value and quality of life.
Disturbing levels of noise or lighting will intrude upon the rural residential areas surrounding it.
The rural character of this area in Boylston will be lost due to sprawling residential development.
Highly valued streams, lakes and wetlands waters will be degraded by watershed development.
